Fiery strands of antique glass beads weave in and out towards a gold-plated centerpiece—a repurposed peineta or payneta. Unique for its domed filigree clusters, this peineta design is known as “”damortis”” among Philippine antique collectors and dealers. Named after the damortis fruit, also known as the camchile or Manila tamarind, it shares a similar shape and design. The name Damortis is also believed to come from a town in La Union of the same name, where this type of peineta was said to be made.
